Festival International des Dattes de Tozeur in Tozeur

Known today mainly as the Festival International des Oasis de Tozeur but rooted in what was historically called the Date Festival, this January event in southern Tunisia's oasis capital celebrates the region's date-palm harvest and oasis culture through parades, music, dance, and craft markets built around the date trade.

Tozeur sits at the edge of the Sahara in southern Tunisia, its economy and identity built for centuries around one of North Africa's great oasis systems: hundreds of thousands of date palms fed by underground springs, producing the Deglet Nour dates that remain one of Tunisia's most recognizable agricultural exports.
