New Mexico Wine Festival in Albuquerque

The Harvest Wine and Music Festival, long known in New Mexico simply as the state's wine festival, takes over Balloon Fiesta Park in Albuquerque every Labor Day weekend. New Mexico wineries and vineyards set up tasting booths across the outdoor grounds, pouring against the backdrop of the Sandia Mountains while bands play through the afternoon and evening. The event is restricted to guests 21 and older and has run for more than three decades.

New Mexico's winemaking history is older than most people expect, going back to Spanish missionaries who planted vines along the Rio Grande valley centuries before California's wine industry existed, which is why the state calls itself the birthplace of American winemaking.
