The story

Bellingham SeaFeast in Bellingham

Established in 2016, Bellingham SeaFeast is a September celebration of Whatcom County's maritime heritage and working waterfront, held at Squalicum Harbor in Bellingham, Washington. Founded by maritime advocate Deb Granger, the festival grew from a one-day gathering into a two-day event combining seafood, art, music and history, and remains the only Whatcom County festival held during National Seafood Month.

Bellingham's Squalicum Harbor has long supported a working commercial fishing fleet, part of a maritime economy that shaped the city's growth but that, by the 2010s, had become less visible to residents whose daily lives no longer intersected with the docks.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

SeaFeast distinguishes itself by centering the working harbor itself, not just the seafood it produces

02

The mystery stays covered

Squalicum Harbor's active commercial fishing fleet is woven directly into festival programming, giving visitors access to real boats, real fishers and genuine maritime trades rather than a generic seafood-themed street fair

03

The city starts moving

As Whatcom County's only nonprofit dedicated year-round to promoting the working waterfront through education and events, the organization behind SeaFeast treats the festival as one piece of a broader mission, meaning proceeds and programming support fisher education and harbor advocacy beyond the festival weekend itself, a civic dimension many food festivals lack
