Idaho Potato Drop in Boise

Every New Year's Eve, downtown Boise gathers at Cecil D. Andrus Park to watch a 17-foot illuminated potato called the GlowTato descend from the Idaho State Capitol at midnight, followed by fireworks. Started in 2013 by local businessman Dylan Cline, the free event now draws live bands, food trucks, and a beer garden to close out the year.

Idaho's identity has long been tied to the potato, and in the fall of 2012 Boise businessman Dylan Cline decided the state should have a New Year's tradition to match.
