The New Hampshire Pumpkin Festival, which started in Keene in 1991 and moved to Laconia in 2015, celebrates fall with thousands of lit and carved pumpkins, a children's costume parade, and a Jack-o-Lantern Lighting ceremony each late October. The event has since grown into new parts of downtown Laconia, adding a Zombie Walk and expanded family programming.

When the New Hampshire Pumpkin Festival left Keene for Laconia in 2015, it carried with it a legacy dating back to 1991, when the tradition of mass-displaying lit jack-o-lanterns first took hold on Keene's Main Street and eventually produced five Guinness World Records for the largest such display.
