National Festival of Breads in Manhattan
The National Festival of Breads is a biennial home-baking competition run by Kansas Wheat, based in Manhattan, Kansas, that invites amateur bakers nationwide to submit original yeast-bread recipes. Finalists compete in person for cash prizes while the festival promotes wheat education and shares winning recipes publicly.
Kansas has long been one of the top wheat-producing states in the country, and Kansas Wheat, the industry organization representing the states wheat farmers, created the National Festival of Breads as a way to connect that agricultural identity directly to home kitchens rather than leaving wheats public image limited to commodity markets and farm statistics.
