Now in its fifth decade, the festival centers on oyster shucking and eating contests, live music, and a food court of local restaurants, having raised more than 1.5 million dollars for regional charities since its founding.
Each winter, the grounds of Boone Hall Plantation in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina fill with the smell of roasting oysters and the sound of shucking knives working through shells at competitive speed.
