Brushy Mountain Apple Festival in North Wilkesboro

Founded in 1978, the Brushy Mountain Apple Festival fills downtown North Wilkesboro, North Carolina every first Saturday in October with one of the largest single-day arts and crafts fairs in the Southeast. Sponsored by the Brushy Mountain Ruritan Club, the one-day event draws more than 160,000 visitors to celebrate the apple harvest from the nearby Brushy Mountains.

Its crop identity and mountain-town scale make it a strong NC food row.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

The festival's scale in a single day sets it apart: over 425 arts and crafts booths and more than 100 food concession stands fill several blocks of North Wilkesboro's business district, organized by more than 100 church, civic, and nonprofit groups from Wilkes County and neighboring communities, making it as much a community fundraising event as a craft fair

02

The mystery stays covered

Four dedicated music stages keep bluegrass, folk, country, and gospel music, the core genres of Southern Appalachian musical heritage, running throughout the day, while square dancing and clogging demonstrations bring the region's traditional dance forms directly into the festival footprint
