Norwalk Oyster Festival in Norwalk
The Norwalk Oyster Festival is an annual fair held the first weekend after Labor Day at Veterans Park on Long Island Sound in Norwalk, Connecticut. Run by the nonprofit Norwalk Seaport Association since its 1978 founding, it averages more than 90,000 attendees and has hosted major touring acts including the Village People, Willie Nelson, and Cheap Trick.
The Norwalk Seaport Association was founded in 1978 with a mission centered on preserving Norwalk's maritime heritage, and almost immediately the organization needed a sustainable way to fund that mission, particularly the upkeep of the historic Sheffield Island Lighthouse standing watch over Long Island Sound near the city's harbor.
