Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival in Ponchatoula
The Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival has celebrated the town's status as the Strawberry Capital of the World since 1972, drawing visitors each April to Ponchatoula Memorial Park. Billed as the largest free harvest festival in Louisiana, it combines a strawberry-themed food market, live music, a royalty pageant, a strawberry ball and family activities honoring local farmers.
Ponchatoula sits in Tangipahoa Parish just north of Lake Pontchartrain, a small town whose sandy, well-drained soil proved especially well suited to strawberry cultivation in the early twentieth century, when Louisiana's strawberry industry expanded to supply markets across the South and beyond.
