Pueblo Chile and Frijoles Festival in Pueblo
Held each September along Historic Downtown Pueblo's Union Avenue, the Pueblo Chile and Frijoles Festival celebrates the region's signature Pueblo chile pepper through a Chili and Salsa Showdown, a Jalapeno Eating Contest, a Chihuahua and Friends Parade, and farm stands selling local produce, drawing residents and visitors from across Colorado.
Pueblo, Colorado, has built part of its regional identity around a single crop: the Pueblo chile, a pepper variety grown in the Arkansas Valley's particular soil and climate conditions that has earned a devoted following across Colorado.
