Louisiana Peach Festival in Ruston
The Louisiana Peach Festival in Ruston celebrates the region's peach orchards each June with a peach cobbler cook-off, a parade, an arts and crafts market and live music. Ruston's sandy, well-drained north Louisiana soil made it one of the state's few areas suited to commercial peach growing, giving the town its Peach Capital identity.
Ruston sits in Lincoln Parish in north Louisiana, a region whose sandy, well-drained hill-country soil proved unusually well suited to commercial peach cultivation, distinguishing it agriculturally from the rice prairies, sugarcane fields and coastal marshes that define farming further south in the state.
