Valparaiso Popcorn Festival in Valparaiso
A mid-September street festival in downtown Valparaiso, Indiana, honoring hometown popcorn entrepreneur Orville Redenbacher since 1979. Home to what organizers call the nation's first Popcorn Parade, it now features more than 280 arts and crafts booths and 50-plus food vendors. Vendors and craft booths line downtown streets throughout the day.
Valparaiso, Indiana's connection to popcorn runs through one of the food industry's most recognizable names: Orville Redenbacher, the entrepreneur whose popcorn brand became a household staple nationwide, was closely tied to the city and to Valparaiso University.
