Fiesta Nacional de la Vendimia in Las Piedras/Canelones

Held on the first weekend of March in Plaza Jose Batlle y Ordonez, the Fiesta Nacional de la Vendimia is Las Piedras' grape-harvest parade, running since 1942 with allegorical floats carrying elected queens and princesses from surrounding wine towns who throw grape bunches to the crowd.

The Fiesta Nacional de la Vendimia traces back to 1942, when Las Piedras first held what became known as the Desfile de la Vendimia, a parade celebrating the grape harvest in the wine-growing countryside of southwestern Canelones and Montevideo, an area whose fertile, well-irrigated soils have long supported the most technified and industrialized vineyard production in Uruguay.
