The story

Expo Prado in Montevideo

Expo Prado, formally the Exposicion Internacional de Ganaderia, Muestra Internacional Agroindustrial y Comercial, is Uruguay's major annual livestock and agroindustrial fair, held over ten days each September at the Rural del Prado grounds in Montevideo. Organized by the Asociacion Rural del Uruguay since 1883, it draws roughly 500,000 visitors, making it one of the country's most attended events.

In 1871, in the years following Uruguay's Revolucion de las Lanzas, a group of ranchers and agricultural producers founded the Asociacion Rural del Uruguay to advocate for the country's rural economy.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Expo Prado's roots trace to 1883, when Asociacion Rural del Uruguay president Domingo Ordonana organized the country's first Exposicion Nacional de la Produccion, and the event moved to its permanent home at the purpose-built Rural del Prado grounds in 1913, when the site opened specifically to house it

02

The mystery stays covered

What began as a livestock and machinery showcase for ranchers has grown into a ten-day event combining cattle and equipment exhibitions with international commercial pavilions and cultural programming, drawing an estimated 500,000 visitors annually, a figure that places it among Uruguay's largest recurring public events of any kind, agricultural or otherwise
