Fiesta de la Sandia y la Forestacion in Tranqueras
The Fiesta de la Sandia y la Forestacion is a traditional festival in Tranqueras, Rivera department, Uruguay, organized annually since 1992 to promote the area's fruit farming, especially watermelon, and forestry sector. Its 32nd edition ran February 7 to 9 at Plaza 22 de Julio.
In the far north of Uruguay, close to the Brazilian border, the small city of Tranqueras in Rivera department has spent more than three decades building a February tradition around two unlikely economic partners: watermelons and timber.
