Walking With History in Gjirokaster
Held for three days each March at Gjirokastër Castle, Walking with History turns the fortress into open-air theatre, reviving different eras of the city's past through costumed performances, ethno-music, polyphonic song and traditional dance. A companion strand, Retro n'Sokak, brings jazz, swing and retro car displays into the old town's cobbled lanes, extending the festival's nostalgic atmosphere beyond the castle walls.
Walking with History runs for three days each March at Gjirokastër Castle, the fortress that crowns Albania's UNESCO-listed stone city in the south of the country, and it works less like a conventional festival than a piece of immersive open-air theatre staged across the castle grounds.
