Andorra la Vella and Escaldes-Engordany merge their carnivals into one February programme, headlined by the Gran Rua parade of competing costumed troupes and batucada drums along the towns' shared shopping axis. Around it run the hanging, satirical trial and burning of the Carnestoltes effigy, folk-dance performances, and communal feasts of sausage and calçots.
Two towns that meet mid-avenue throw a single carnival: Andorra la Vella and Escaldes-Engordany, whose streets run into each other without a visible seam, stage their carnival as one shared programme, and the festivities move back and forth across the boundary as if it did not exist.
