Canillo Carnival in Canillo
Canillo Carnival is a high-village February carnival led by its traditional harlequins — figures in light, patched costumes with coscolles bells at their ankles — and closed by the satirical trial and burning of the Carnestoltes effigy, followed by a communal botifarrada. Smaller and more familial than the capital's carnival, it plays out at ski altitude, often against snow.
Harlequins with coscolles — small bells — tied at their ankles are Canillo Carnival's oldest signature, so that the festival's traditional figures ring with every step they take through the village.
