National Yerba Mate Festival in Apostoles
Argentina's national celebration of yerba mate, held in Apostoles, Misiones since 1972, tracing back to a first edition in 1944 attended by the sitting president. Combines producer honors and a technical program on mate cultivation with concerts, craft stalls, and the crowning of a Yerba Mate Queen.
The first Fiesta Nacional de la Yerba Mate was inaugurated on October 5, 1944, in Posadas, with President Edelmiro Farrell in attendance alongside a National Congress of Tobacco and an exhibition of regional work -- a sign of how closely the early festival was tied to broader Misiones agricultural promotion rather than yerba mate alone.
