arteba in Buenos Aires
Argentina's leading contemporary art fair, running since 1991, bringing galleries from across the country and abroad into one exhibition hall for a single weekend of sales, curated thematic sections and talks, a market and a survey of the regional art scene combined, founded to build market infrastructure that barely existed in Argentina before, and now including a dedicated section reserved for younger galleries showing early-career artists.
Argentina had no organized platform for buying and selling contemporary art before 1991, when a group of Buenos Aires galleries founded arteba to build one, and more than three decades later the fair still functions partly as infrastructure, training collectors and giving emerging galleries a national stage, as much as a weekend art market.
