Melbourne International Film Festival in Melbourne

Founded in 1952 in the Dandenong Ranges before relocating to central Melbourne, MIFF is one of the world's oldest film festivals, trailing only Venice, Cannes and Berlin. Running for two and a half weeks each August across venues including ACMI, the Forum Theatre and Kino Cinemas, it screens hundreds of international and Australian features, documentaries and shorts alongside director Q&As and industry events.

What became the Melbourne International Film Festival began in January 1952 in the Dandenong Ranges town of Olinda, launched by film society representatives from New South Wales and Victoria who modelled it on the Edinburgh International Film Festival.
