Port Fairy Folk Festival began in 1977 after a group of Geelong folk enthusiasts chose the historic coastal town of Port Fairy for a new festival, later settling into its now-traditional March timing on the Labour Day long weekend. Over four days, multiple stages across the heritage seaside town host folk, roots, blues and acoustic music, drawing musicians and campers from across Australia.
Port Fairy Folk Festival traces its beginning to a conversation in a Geelong pub in 1977, when a small group of folk enthusiasts who had just restarted the Geelong Folk Music Club began looking for a town to host a new festival.
