Styriarte in Graz
Styriarte is a summer classical music festival in Graz and rural Styria, founded in 1985 to anchor conductor Nikolaus Harnoncourt to his native city. Running each June and July, it began with an all-Bach program and later adopted an annually changing thematic motto, spanning baroque, classical and other repertoire across venues in Graz and the wider Styrian countryside.
Styriarte was created in 1985 when Styrian cultural politician Kurt Jungwirth set out to tie conductor Nikolaus Harnoncourt more closely to his hometown of Graz.
