Fiesta de la Virgen de Caacupe in Caacupe
Every December 8, Caacupe becomes the site of Paraguay's most important religious pilgrimage, honoring the Virgen de los Milagros de Caacupe, patron saint of the country, at a basilica first inaugurated in 1765 that draws hundreds of thousands of pilgrims, many walking long distances, to its plaza and surrounding streets.
Caacupe matters because Paraguay's Marian devotion becomes a shared national journey, where hope and gratitude are carried on foot.
