Carinthian Summer in Ossiach/Villach
Carinthian Summer is a classical music festival based at the abbey of Ossiach on the shores of Lake Ossiach, founded in 1969 after a benefit concert for the church organ and formally organized as an association in 1970. Running through July and August, it presents orchestral, chamber and choral concerts alongside sacred opera staged inside the abbey church itself, with additional venues in Villach and across Carinthia.
Carinthian Summer traces its origins to a benefit concert given by pianist Wilhelm Backhaus on 25 June 1969 in the collegiate church of Ossiach, held to raise funds for a new organ.
