Vienna Pride in Vienna
Vienna Pride centers on the Regenbogenparade, an annual march along the Ringstrasse run deliberately against the flow of traffic since 1996, now Austria's largest demonstration. A multi-day Pride Village at Rathausplatz and a Pride Conference inside City Hall extend the event well beyond parade day itself.
The Wiener Regenbogenparade traces to a single trip: Andreas Brunner visited New York in 1994 for the 25th anniversary of the Stonewall riots, came home convinced Vienna needed its own version, and helped organize the first parade on June 29, 1996, with an estimated 25,000 participants.
