Abaco Junkanoo in Marsh Harbour/Abaco settlements
Abaco runs its own Junkanoo tradition centered on Marsh Harbour, including a New Year's Day parade and a distinct mid-to-late February weekend called Love Rush, when thousands watch Junior and Senior Junkanoo groups compete over two days in the downtown streets. The tradition has taken on added meaning since Hurricane Dorian devastated much of Marsh Harbour in 2019, with its continued growth read locally as a sign of community recovery.
Marsh Harbour anchors Abaco's own Junkanoo calendar, which actually runs on two separate occasions rather than one: a New Year's Day parade that follows the national Junkanoo schedule, and a distinct February weekend known locally as Love Rush, when thousands gather in downtown Marsh Harbour for a two-day competition between Junior and Senior Junkanoo groups.
