Ashura Processions Bangladesh in Dhaka/Nationwide
Old Dhaka's Ashura procession departs from the historic Hussaini Dalan imambara and winds through Bakshibazar, Lalbagh, Azimpur and New Market to Dhanmondi, carrying symbolic mourning objects, a Panja Alam standard, the riderless Zuljanah horse, and a Jari Tazia model of Husayn's mausoleum. It is Bangladesh's most visible public commemoration of the Battle of Karbala, observed mainly by the country's Shia minority.
The Tazia procession that marks Ashura in Old Dhaka has departed from Hussaini Dalan, the city's historic Shia imambara, along a route through Bakshibazar, Urdu Road, Lalbagh, Azimpur, Nilkhet and New Market before ending in Dhanmondi.
