Dhamrai Rath Mela in Dhamrai
Dhamrai, about 40km from Dhaka, holds Bangladesh's best-known Rath Yatra: a rebuilt wooden Jagannath chariot, on 16 wheels, pulled by hand through town streets across a roughly nine-day festival window from the initial pull to the Ulta Rath return. The current chariot replaced one burned by the Pakistani army in 1971.
The chariot pulled through Dhamrai's streets today is not the one that stood there for centuries.
