Dinajpur Kantajiu Rash Mela in Dinajpur

This Rash Mela centers on the carved terracotta temple at Kantanagar village, where the Radha-Krishna idol is carried out to a dedicated platform on the November full moon of Kartik, reenacting Krishna's mythic dance with Radha. Unlike a generic fair, it happens on the grounds of Bangladesh's best-known terracotta building, and draws visitors across religious lines.

Kantajew Temple's nine ornamental spires came down in an 1897 earthquake, but the three-storey terracotta base on the bank of the Dhepa River still carries thousands of carved panels depicting scenes from the Ramayana, the Mahabharata and rural Bengali life, and it is this building, not a generic mela ground, that anchors Dinajpur's Rash Mela each year.
