Ras Mela Kamalganj in Kamalganj/Moulvibazar
Ras Mela at Madhabpur village near Kamalganj, Moulvibazar, is the principal festival of Bangladesh's Manipuri community, centered on Moha Ras Lila, a classical dance-drama reenacting the Radha-Krishna story. Held at the Kartik-Agrahayan full moon, it draws roughly 100,000 people to a rural Sylhet-division setting, performed in distinctive Manipuri dance costume.
Kamalganj's Ras Mela was introduced to Manipuri society by Maharaj Jaysingh, the raja of Manipur who reigned from 1764 to 1799, and has been observed at Madhabpur village in Moulvibazar since the Manipuri community settled in the area in the mid-19th century.
