Baishakhi Mela Rajshahi in Rajshahi
Rajshahi's most distinctive Baishakhi fair, Kalupeerer Boishakhi Mela, runs along the Baral River at Charghat upazila, its century-plus tradition tied to a local saint credited with saving the area from Padma River erosion. Rajshahi city itself sees more conventional Pahela Boishakh gatherings, including crowds along the Padma riverbank, processions, kite-flying and roadside melas, but the Charghat fair carries a specific local legend that sets it apart.
On the bank of the Baral River in Charghat upazila, Rajshahi district runs a Boishakhi fair with a story attached to it: Kalupeerer Boishakhi Mela, named for a local saint, Kalupeer, credited with having saved the area's population from erosion by the nearby Padma River.
