Barbados Independence Lighting Ceremony in Bridgetown
The opening event of Barbados's Independence month, held every November 1 at National Heroes Square in Bridgetown, when officials trigger a synchronized lighting of the square and nearby public spaces in the national colours. It is a free outdoor gathering with local performances, not a repeat of the later Independence Day parade.
Barbados switched on its first Independence lighting display on November 1, 1966, the same year it became independent, at what was then Trafalgar Square in Bridgetown and is now National Heroes Square.
