Yuraski Karahod Spring Rite in Pahost/Zhytkavichy District
In Pahost village near Turov in the Zhytkavichy district, residents still carry out the Yuri's Day round dance largely as their grandparents did, a rite UNESCO placed on its Urgent Safeguarding list in 2019. Women bake a ritual round loaf and lead a slow procession-dance through the village accompanied by old call-and-response songs, marking the traditional date when cattle first went out to spring pasture.
Pahost, a small village in the Zhytkavichy district near the ancient town of Turov, keeps one of the few surviving full performances of a Slavic Yuri's Day rite still enacted by residents rather than restaged for an audience.
