Ducasse d'Ath in Ath
Ducasse d'Ath centers on a procession of giants, including Bayard the horse, dating to 1462, and Goliath, joined in 1481, loosely reenacting the biblical David and Goliath story through Ath's streets each August. Part of a joint UNESCO giants-and-dragons listing since 2008, Ath was specifically delisted in 2022 over a blackface character controversy.
Ath's oldest giant, a wooden horse named Bayard, has processed through the town since 1462, more than two centuries before Goliath, the giant most visitors now come to see, joined the parade in 1481.
