Brigittines Summer Festival in Brussels
Brigittines Summer Festival is a contemporary dance and physical theater program staged inside a restored 17th-century chapel in Brussels' Marolles district, running for more than thirty years. The chapel's own layered history, including stints as a prison, arsenal and warehouse before its 1970s conversion into a performance venue, is as much a draw as the programming itself.
The 17th-century chapel hosting this festival has been, at various points, a pawnshop, a prison, a military pharmacy, an arsenal, a beer warehouse and a ballroom before the City of Brussels bought and restored it as a performance space in the 1970s.
