Ommegang Brussels in Brussels

Ommegang Brussels is an annual historical pageant that reenacts the 1549 ceremonial entry of Emperor Charles V into the city, with roughly 1,400 costumed participants, horses and period guild societies parading in Renaissance dress. Recognized by UNESCO since 2019, it culminates in a ticketed formal tableau on the Grand-Place rather than a free-flowing street party.

Roughly 1,400 costumed extras — horse riders, crossbowmen, archers, fencers and arquebusiers — restage a single afternoon from 1549: the ceremonial entry of Holy Roman Emperor Charles V and his son Philip II into Brussels.
