The story

Film Fest Gent in Ghent

Belgium's largest film festival, running since 1974 in Ghent, distinguished by a specialization in film music: it hosts the World Soundtrack Awards each October alongside its main film competition, with orchestral concerts of film scores performed live as part of the program. A dedicated Georges Delerue Award for Best Soundtrack sits alongside the festival's Grand Prix for Best Film.

Film Fest Gent grew out of a 1974 screening series aimed at films that could not get a commercial cinema release, and it has since become Belgium's largest film festival, built around a specialization no other major festival shares: the relationship between music and film.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Film Fest Gent is one of the only major film festivals built around a film-music specialization, hosting the World Soundtrack Awards since 2001 with live orchestral performances of film scores as part of its core program rather than a side event

02

The mystery stays covered

Its Georges Delerue Award for Best Soundtrack or Sound Design is a category most general film festivals do not have at all

03

The city starts moving

As Belgium's largest film festival, it also runs a broad international competition program alongside the soundtrack focus, rather than narrowing entirely to music
