Boombal Festival is Belgium's flagship bal-folk gathering, where the point is dancing schottisches, mazurkas and bourrees to live folk bands, not just listening. Held over several August days on riverside grounds in Lievegem, it pairs beginner workshops with open-floor balls and has grown into one of Europe's leading folk-dance festivals since its mid-2000s founding.

At Boombal, almost nobody just stands and watches: the point is to learn a schottische or bourree within the first hour and dance it for the rest of the weekend.
