Belize Carnival Road March in Belize City

Belize City's Carnival Road March and its pre-dawn J'ouvert street party trace back to 1975, when the Committee of Forty organized the first version specifically to bridge St. George's Caye Day and Independence Day. J'ouvert brings paint and mud through the streets before sunrise; the afternoon Road March follows with costumed troupes dancing behind sound trucks playing soca and punta. Both are held the Saturday before September 10, functioning as the opening event of Belize's September Celebrations season.
