Benque Viejo Fiesta in Benque Viejo del Carmen
The Benque Fiesta turns Benque Viejo del Carmen, on Belize's Guatemala border, into a ten-day town fair built around the July 17 feast day of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Amusement rides, marimba music and the Flor de la Feria beauty pageant, running since the fair's 1967 founding as La Fiesta de Plata, fill the days leading to a closing fireworks show.
Benque Viejo del Carmen's biggest event of the year is a Catholic feast dressed up as a ten-day town fair, built around Our Lady of Mount Carmel, the Carmelite patron saint the town takes its middle name from.
