Placencia Sidewalk Arts Festival in Placencia
Placencia's third decade of sidewalk art continues each February along the village's famously narrow beachfront path, where painters, wood carvers and jewelry makers set up in a single line for two days of browsing, music and poetry readings. The Placencia Chapter of the Belize Tourism Industry Association now organizes the roughly four-thousand-foot, four-foot-wide event, drawing artists from across the country. Live Garifuna music, steel drums and DJs run through both days.
A four-thousand-foot sidewalk barely four feet wide runs the length of Placencia Village, and for one February weekend each year it becomes the exhibition floor for one of Belize's longest-running arts festivals, now in its third decade.
