Gasa Tshechu in Gasa Dzong
Gasa Tshechu is a small, remote masked-dance festival held at Gasa Dzong, a seventeenth-century fortress in one of Bhutan's least populated and hardest-to-reach districts. The identity and existence of the annual tshechu are confirmed by the local district government, though detailed program information beyond the standard tshechu format is scarce.
Gasa Dzong stands at roughly 2,770 meters in Bhutan's remote northern Gasa district, built in the seventeenth century under Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal to guard the trade and military routes toward Tibet, and rebuilt more than once after fire and earthquake damage over the centuries.
