Gomphukora

Gomphukora centers on a sacred black rock beside the Drangme Chhu river in Trashigang, where Guru Rinpoche is said to have left a body-shaped impression while subduing a serpent-demon in the eighth century. Pilgrims circle and touch the rock over several days of festivities that also carry a long-standing reputation as a social gathering point for young people from across eastern Bhutan.

Gom Kora, more fully Gomphu Kora, is a small whitewashed temple built around a large black rock beside the Drangme Chhu river in Trashigang, eastern Bhutan, on the spot where tradition holds that Guru Rinpoche meditated in the eighth century and subdued a demon that had taken the form of a serpent, leaving behind a body-shaped impression in the rock that pilgrims still touch today.
