Kurjey Tshechu in Kurjey Lhakhang
Kurjey Tshechu is centered on the Guru Tshengye mask dance, portraying Guru Rinpoche's eight manifestations, performed at the very Bumthang temple complex built around his meditation cave and body-print rock. The single-day festival combines pilgrimage to the historic site with one of central Bhutan's most thematically direct cham dances.
Kurjey Lhakhang, in the Choekhor valley of Bumthang, is built around a cave where Guru Rinpoche is said to have meditated in the eighth century and left the imprint of his body in the rock face, giving the site its name, which translates roughly as body print.
