Wangdue Tshechu in Wangdue Phodrang

Wangdue Phodrang's tshechu gathers the valley around masked cham dances performed in or near the historic dzong built in 1638 at the meeting point of two rivers. Programming follows the tenth-lunar-month tshechu format honoring Guru Rinpoche, closing with the locally distinctive Raksha Mangcham dance of judgment. Confirm the active festival ground locally, since the dzong has been under restoration since a 2012 fire.

Wangdue Phodrang Dzong sits above the confluence of the Punakha and Dang Chhu rivers, built in 1638 on the orders of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal to guard the approach into western Bhutan.
