The story

Festival de Cine Cultura Caotica in La Paz

Cultura Caotica is La Paz's longest-running independent short film festival, screening entries of three to fifteen minutes across five categories: documentary, animation, fiction, video art and music video. Now in its second decade, it doubles as a training pipeline, since winning filmmakers earn workshop access at local film schools, making it as much a launchpad for emerging Bolivian directors as a public screening event.

Cultura Caotica began as La Paz's first festival dedicated purely to short film and video, built to give emerging local producers a real audience and a path into the city's small but committed audiovisual scene.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

The festival's real distinction is its role as a career pipeline rather than just a prize ceremony

02

The mystery stays covered

Winners do not simply collect a trophy

03

The city starts moving

they gain a six-session cinematography laboratory led by instructors from La Paz's Escuela de Cine y Artes Audiovisuales plus scholarships at the Andean School of Cinematography and a visual effects academy, turning recognition into concrete skill-building

04

The water draws everyone in

Its five-category structure, spanning documentary, animation, fiction, video art and music video, also gives it a broader creative range than most short-film competitions, and its focus on emerging and student filmmakers gives screenings a rougher, more experimental character than festivals built around established names
