Festival de Bandas Oruro in Oruro
The Festival Nacional de Bandas de Musica takes over Avenida Civica Sanjines Vincenti in Oruro on the Saturday before Carnaval de Oruro's final day, gathering around 6,000 musicians from bands across Bolivia. The event opens with a religious ceremony honoring the Virgen del Socavon before performers, dressed in Bolivian-flag-colored outfits, move through choreographed routines that double as a warm-up act for Oruro's UNESCO-listed carnival.
Each year, on the Saturday before Carnaval de Oruro reaches its final day, Avenida Civica Sanjines Vincenti fills with more musicians than most cities see in an entire festival season.
