Carnaval Cruceno in Santa Cruz de la Sierra
Carnaval Cruceno is Santa Cruz de la Sierra's own Carnival tradition, distinct in music and style from the highland celebrations of Oruro and La Paz, built around comparsa clubs, float parades along Avenida Cristo Redentor, and heavy water and foam play. Taquirari and chobena rhythms replace the brass-band sound of Andean Carnival, reflecting the region's tropical lowland camba identity.
Carnaval Cruceno gives Bolivia's lowland tropical region its own distinct Carnival identity, built on a different musical and cultural base than the Andean highland traditions of Oruro, La Paz or even Cochabamba's valley Carnival.
